Reviews of 'Waking Up' EP
Spring ushering tinglesome guitars, softly shy eyed lilting melodies and hopelessly lovelorn boy / girl harmonies - how could we resist. Take a chance and treat yourself you'll be sorry when they're massive.
It’s only right and fair that the band is regarded of one of the best new things in British indiepop.
I love this song already! Those genderblender harmonies, those witty lyrics! It's typical of Pocketbooks and they're sounding tighter and more assured than ever before.
Their early free releases were good, their first proper single was fantastic, and the song I’ve heard so far from this one sounds absolutely brilliant. Very nice melodies and some perfect vocalwork from both of their singers.
The only pop song to ever employ the words "flippin'" and "vortex" in the same line. Don't know if it trumps "Cross the Line," but "Don't Stop" is quite the catchy little song, and I love the harmonies in the chorus.
The song, "Don't Stop," is the perfect indiepop remedy for those mid-quarter/mid-semester blues that have been plaguing you (and I). Boy/girl harmonies, shimmering guitars, summery melody... what more could you ask for, mid-February?
These classic, dancefloor-ready pop songs by this London five-piece certainly match the standard. By the sounds of it, they're taking off everywhere.
After just two months, we've already found our favourite group of 2008.
I decided to give them a chance, having not heard of them until now. The results could not have been more positive.
It is London band Pocketbooks who steal the show tonight - even from headliners The School. Their fab new single Waking Up sounds even richer live on stage, with ever-fast building piano lines and curling guitar licks perfectly complementing singer Emma's honeyed vocals.
If they keep growing at this rate, in another couple of years they will be the best indie pop band in the world.
With this EP they have me clapping my hands with joy!
